Mexico Is The 3rd Largest Metropolis Of The World, holidays 2012

Long ago, the French poet Andre Breton called Mexico surreal country of pure perfection and its capital to this day is famous for its own eccentricity. Mexico City is often described as a hostile maelstrom of crime and smog, and, nevertheless, the city charms visitors simultaneously strange and bewitching beauty, hospitality, and an eternal spring, vibrant streets and the incredible number of historical monuments.

The history of the capital of Mexico is with the XIV century, when the Aztecs first settled there. Officially, the city was founded by the conquistadors on the shores of Lake Texcoco in 1525 year.

Today, according to some estimates, Mexico is the third-largest metropolis of the world, being home of 19.7 million people. Located at a height of 2240 m elevation above sea level, surrounded by mountains Mexico is in the zone of subtropical climate. Wide open spaces of parks in the capital are the biggest park zone in the world, and cozy and effective living areas of the city center is a Mexican copy of Beverly Hills.

Like all mega-cities, the Mexico City looks like a huge colored panel of mosaic. It seems that these fragments were part of very different cultures and eras, but in Mexico they are gathered together. At some moment in the old wine cellar you are stunned by spicy taste of tequila, and the next moment you are dancing on the roof of a luxury building under contemporary rhythms of world class DJ. In the morning you enjoy breakfast lowly purchased on the corner of a street vendor – corn tortilla stuffed with minced meat and chili, wrapped in corn leaves and in the evening you join the fusion style cuisine in one of the elite restaurants of Polanco. By day you can divide mental anguishes and sufferings of the great artist Frida Kahlo, and later to witness the physical pain of fighters, dressed in masks and perform on stage in the city center. And all this is the Mexico City, where past and present live side by side.
