Some wintery scenes are magical. Whilst unfortunately we don’t get them quite so much here in the UK, unless you head far north, and even if we do, they don’t last so long, there are some destinations, not too far away, where you can experience a true winter wonderland, and get away from it all for a few days.
I’m not necessarily talking skiing, because personally skiing would probably land me with a leg in a pot, however I know many people who love nothing more than swooping down snow-covered hills. No, I’m talking about sipping hot chocolate in a log cabin, in front of a roaring fire – bliss? I think so.

All this might sound expensive, but it’s surprisingly cheap if you grab a low cost airline flight to one of the colder European cities. Add on cheap airport extras, helping you get to the airport on time, such as Gatwick Airport parking, for those cheaper London flights, and you could be looking at a bargain-busting break that will be quite the relaxing few days.
Ski holidays are plentiful, so if that’s your bag, then you won’t struggle to find a deal to many fantastic ski locations in not only Europe, but worldwide, however if you’re like me, and you love the scenery but prefer to relax without getting too energetic, then a log cabin break is a wonderful idea. I’ve always loved the idea of going to Lapland, and although this is an expensive choice around the festive season, there are several other choices that don’t cost quite so much – maybe Switzerland, Austria or Norway, for example.

Packing for this chilly break could be a poser however, as you’ll need warmth and layers, which does tend to mean a bigger suitcase! The best advice I would give is to wear your biggest coat to travel in, and your heaviest boots, because at least you can take them off on the plane and store them in the overhead locker. This will cut down on luggage weight and reduce the risk of having to pay costly excess luggage charges. If you choose to drive yourself to the airport too, which I always do nowadays, then that bulky suitcase won’t be so much of a problem. If you are planning to do this, then I would recommend looking at www.parkbcp.co.uk for fantastic deals and a high level of customer service. I’ve used this several times, at various different airports, and can’t rave about it enough.

The opportunity to relax, read a good book, enjoy a nice bottle of wine and admire the stunning, snowy scenery is one not to be missed. Surely you’ll have seen the films with the fun snowball fight, building a snowman, drinking that aforementioned hot chocolate?

I don’t think there are many people out there that haven’t dreamed of a white Christmas – I think this is the next best thing.
